DreamHost Review

Dreamhost was probably one of the first entrants in the new field (back then) of web hosting business. It was established in 1996 in California by 4 UG students at from a local college in California State. Dreamhost is an offspring of New Dream Network, Limited Liability Company which provides domain registration service along with web hosting. Dreamhost serves web hosting in the Linux platform.

The setup consists of Apache and NGINX web servers. NGINX is an abbreviation that stands for Engine X which is used to accelerate server performance in Linux. Dreamhost comes up with new and creative solutions for the ever changing market all the time. Recently they came up with a cloud based file hosting solution which operates by the virtue of which Dreamhost’s customers would be able to host files online forever (meaning that  a single upload will enable the content to remain on the cloud forever)and use it and share it as when they like. They have also started a free Web Application hosting service by using which the customers can modify and utilize multiple applications free of charge and from the web browser itself (does not need downloading).

Their domain registration service is provided for $9.95 per year. Domain registration is also provided for free (for the first year) if the web hosting is done by them (i.e. web hosting subscription is made with them). They give a guarantee of 100% uptime for their customer’s websites.

Their shared web hosting is available for $8.85 per month. It includes unlimited disk storage, bandwidth, and domains, unlimited Secure SHELL and File Transfer protocol accounts, unlimited email accounts (with IMAP, POP and webmail options and additional spam filtering option). They also provide 5 MySQL databases. The operating system used is Linux. Dreamhost offers the option of configuring the customer’s own websites with the use of multiple programming languages such as PHP5, Perl, python, Ruby and CGI (any few). Dreamhost offers IPv6 address with its shared web hosting program. It also provides free SSL certification along with its packages.

Apart from the services mentioned above, Dreamhost also provides VPS and Dedicated Server packages which are made available at comparatively cheaper rates.
